Rating: 6.5/10
Verdict
Santa Maria is an okay, middle-of-the-road smoke that shines brightest in its fast-acting, effects, but falls a bit short on the flavour and burn. It won't blow a modern consumer away, but it delivers exactly what it needs to for a solid daytime buzz.

Santa Maria: WeedViewer Review
[{"content":"According to Dutch breeder \"SpeesCees\" of No Mercy Supply, the story of Santa Maria began on a night in 1997 when Bernt Gundersen, the editor of Highlife Magazine, banged on his door holding seven fragile, stolen clones. Gundersen had spent a year and a half infiltrating a secretive \"Brazilian Church\" in the Netherlands to gain access to their grow room. Knowing they only kept the strain alive through continuous cloning, he stuffed the cuttings into his pockets and ran. SpeesCees took those seven rescued clones into his lab to stabilize them. While the \"Brazilian Church\" claimed the strain was a sacred Brazilian landrace, SpeesCees’s claimed he traced its genetic blueprint back to California. To rescue the clone-only line, he meticulously backcrossed it for eight straight generations (F8), renaming the final result \"Planck\" to entirely strip away the old branding .While it was very popular in the early 2000s Dutch coffeeshop menus for its distinctively uplifting, clear-headed, and euphoric high, Santa Maria’s ultimate legacy was cemented when other underground breeders took SpeesCees's F8 seeds and crossed them with a low-potency ruderalis plant. That historic cross created Lowryder #2, effectively turning Santa Maria into the foundational genetic backbone for a lot of modern autoflowering cannabis strains today.","heading":"About"},{"content":"Santa Maria rolls out a pleasant greeting here. It’s a nice, gentle blend of sweet floral notes mixed with a grassy, lemony backbone. It’s not going to blast your face off when you open the bag, and it won't win any awards for being the most distinct profile on the shelf, but it’s a nice, reliable aroma","heading":"Aroma"},{"content":"Unfortunately, that nice floral aroma doesn’t stick the landing when it translates to the smoke. The flavour is mostly a straightforward, grassy, herbal experience. You can catch a tiny bit of floweryness and a faint hint of lemony sweetness hiding in the background. It’s a pretty simple, mostly one-dimensional herbal taste that lacks complexity and doesn't linger.","heading":"Flavour"},{"content":"This is where the strain shows its classic sativa charm. The onset hits you fast and stays decently strong from the first puff to the final comedown. It brings a nice, slightly psychedelic edge that heavily leans into an uplifting headspace. It’s a great daytime companion for knocking out creative tasks, and it has just enough of a fun, old-school high if you want to giggle a bit here and there.","heading":"Effects"},{"content":"Visually, the burn wasn’t looking too promising. The ash was pretty dark and it didn't want to burn completely even. Despite the colour of the ash, it actually managed to smoke relatively fine. You'll hit a little bit of harshness here and there, but it’s manageable and stays smokeable throughout the joint.","heading":"Burn Quality"}]
